GrapheneOS: "Earlier today, ARIN fulfilled …" - GrapheneOS Mastodon
https://grapheneos.social/@GrapheneOS/117368720372501470GrapheneOS has secured an IPv4 /22 allocation (206.220.120.0/22) from ARIN via their waiting list, bringing their total owned space to six /24 blocks including existing allocations for anycast DNS. The project plans to deploy the new block across four locations as separate /24s, starting with a Toronto server hosted by Xenyth, a Canadian provider chosen to keep the mail server within the same legal jurisdiction as the GrapheneOS Foundation. This setup allows the non-profit to announce its own IP space via BGP for inbound traffic engineering without relying on shared upstream blocks.
The post clarifies that the IP space was assigned rather than purchased, with annual maintenance fees currently at $1,100 under ARIN's X-Small tier. GrapheneOS notes that while this provides flexibility for future scaling and direct peering, it also shifts responsibility for abuse handling and network stability to the organization itself. The project argues this infrastructure investment supports its mission by ensuring legal alignment and technical control over its core services, such as mail and attestation, which are being moved to Toronto.
