The Home Manager module for the Senpai IRC client exposes standard Nix options to manage its configuration, including enable, package, and a nested config attribute set. The configuration supports standard connection parameters like server address, nickname, and SASL password, with specific handling for TLS versus plain-text connections via URL schemes or port defaults.

A notable security consideration is the handling of credentials: storing the password directly in config.password leaves it world-readable within the Nix store. To mitigate this, the module provides a password-cmd option that executes an external command—such as gopass or pass—to fetch the password at runtime, effectively allowing users to integrate Senpai with encrypted password managers while keeping sensitive data out of the static Nix store.
